I've seen some of the yellow tail strain in Minnesota, USA.
Unfortunately somebody accidentally crossed in some other species into
the strain and now I consider the whole local strain tainted. A local
breeder didn't realize how easily rainbows will cross and sold a very
large quantity of crossed fish. Some appear pure and others appear to
be a real rag tag bunch. I've been trying to educate the local
aquarium society about this problem, but there are always a few people
with rocks for brains. I'm afraid these crossed fish will continue to
populate local tanks. So some of the original pure stock may still be
out there somewhere. On a positive note the breeder destroyed all his
crossed stock and doesn't plan to make that mistake again.
