Isn't this "black beard Algae" the stuff that SAE's love??? That is siamese
algae eaters for those that aren't lucky enough to have them. They are not to
be confused with the despised chinese algae eater that really does virtually
nothing. It took us a long time here in the States to convince people to start
importing the thing so I would imagine that it wouldn't be too easy to obtain in
Oz. There was an article on these fish in a 96 issue of Aquarium Fish Magazine.

Black Beard Algae is a very fine short hair algae that grows in tufts.
These tufts tend to break off and spread around the tank. No algae
eater will touch this stuff and about the only way to get rid of it is
mechanical removal and having enough plants to out compete the algae.
