There is a thing which I believe is called a pooter (no idea why -
other Australians please keep your vulgar thoughts to yourselves) which is a
glass jar, 2 holes in the lid with tubes attached. One tube has a bit of
cotton wool as a filter. You suck on that tube. The other one you use to
vacuum the ant, bug whatever into the jar. Any book for kids about insects
should have a picture.
I was also intrigued by your description of your fishkeeping
methods. The Aqua-L aquaculture e-mail discussion group occasionally has
threads on combination aquaculture/hydroponics which might be interesting.
If you or others are interested I'll post the subscription info. Be warned
though, through traffic is high on that one and some of the threads are
pretty obscure.
