Hello!!

I´ve just bought a cople of rainbows here in Sweden. But I don´t know which kind it is.

One was sold as "Blue rainbow" and the other one as "Yellow rainbow".
Is there anyone who is familiar with this and can tell me there real names?

The blue one is greyish blue and have a dark stripe in the middle of the body. The fins are darkish grey. When they are in good mood they show a lovley blue color on there head.
I´ve been looking in Gerald Allen´s book "Rainbowfishes in nature and aquarium" and I think it might could be the Misool rainbow???

The yellow one did I have a harder time with and I have no suggestion about it. But it is slightly yellow with a darker mid lateral stripe and it has orange fins. It is also were long and has a low body. The fishes isn´t very old.

Then I have another question, How do I sex the rainbows?

I have four Boesemani that is rather big. All of them shows this greenish shine from there heads sometime and two of them are very found of eachother, but nothing seems to happen. What shall I do?

Thanks

Cecilia

First of all I suggest you have a look at my homepage which is listed below. It contains a lot of information about keeping and breeding rainbowfishes. I think you will find all the information that you need there. Secondly, it is very difficult to identify rainbowfishes from only a description, even Gerry Allen cant do that ;-) However, I would guess that the 'blue' one is M. lacustris and the 'yellow' one is M. herbertaxelrodi. Both these fish are featured on my homepage. Regards, Adrian. ............................................................... Adrian R.
