I think Untergasser's reservations are based on two facts. One is that some
species of fish are extra sensitive to the tanning agents, and the other is that
nearly lethal doses are required for them to be effective here.
[In the US, somebody devised a home abortion method using it, so straight
potassium permanganate is nearly impossible to buy over the counter any more,
any way. The weak aquarium products are utterly worthless, IMHO.]
