The fish that were originally called "eight-lined red tails" were introduced by
EkkWill (from Heiko) was a M. splendida australis. That particular one had a
lot of color and the lines were very bold. If you look at the pic on pg 63
(Allen, Tetra book) you can start to see the "lines". That's a pretty dull
colored one pictured there. Dial up the color 4x, same with the black edgings.
Australis are a lot bigger than maccullochi. Australis are around 4 inches
(10 cm). Maccullochi are about a max of 2.5 inches.
