I got this question from a fellow in Kansas - anyone got any ideas??

Adrian.

>I have in my aquarium a rainbow that I cannot identify...I am relatively new
>to the hobby..perhaps you have seen this one somewhere, or maybe it's a
>hybrid....I'll try to describe it...it is an elongated specimen, approximatley
>3 inches long, with the back and sides colored neon blue like M.
>praecox..along the side is a black band, above and below which are fine
>reddish-orange bands...on the lower portion of the fish, the black "band"
>appears again...the fins, and especially the tail, are blood red.....a very
>colorful fish, rather "American flag looking", that is to say...red, white and
>blue. Hybrid? The shop owner had the tank labelled "Dwarf red-tail
>rainbow", but he clearly did not know what he had in his tank...there were a
>handful of these fish in the tank, mine being the smallest of the 6....they
>were all very active and identically colored, although some were quite a bit
>larger in size....how's that for a mystery?
