Sounds similar to the gobies in the Hawaiian streams. Most species migrate
to the esuarine areas spawn and their fry get washed out to sea. Typically
this coincides with a huge storm, flash flood, etc. The fry spend several
months out to sea and then migrate back into the rivers. Makes aquarium
culture kinda hard, especially if you need a rainstorm ;-)
