I had noticed in the past that upon hatching sometimes the fry would
get its head stuck in the egg case. Normally these were fry that I would
find dead. This morning I noticed several fry experience this problem.
Most fry would be free swimming within 2 minutes but several and one
in particular, remained stuck in the egg case for 5 minutes. I figured
they needed some help. So like some kind of piscine obstetrician, I
used my handy eye dropper to carefully hold down the fragmented egg
case. As the fry continued it's birth struggle, it eventually managed to
free itself! It was a great feeling to see that little creature dart to the
surface and begin it's life.
And there you have it. Just a glimpse into the many faceted pleasures
of fish keeping! ;-)
