Danny
I have never found them in permanent FW situations and have never been =
able to keep them thriving in FW longer than 6 months - they are usually =
found in schools in brackish mangrove creeks and swim close to the =
surface and often near to the edges. This differs from P. inconspicuus =
which swim deeper, during the day anyway, and is found in more open and =
purely marine situations - however the two can be found together.
In my experience the colour is more influenced by live food and morning =
sunlight on the tank than by salinity. Brine shrimp and mossie larvae =
are tops.
Life span is around 2 years but they mature quickly, like high =
temperatures and breed early.

Subject: [RML] Pseudomugil cynadorsalis Melanotaenia pygmae
Can anyone tell me if P.cyanodorsalis is found in any permanent =
freshwater, (land locked) or are they just seasonal bouts of freshwater, =
and are they also found in open sea areas or sheltered harbours and =
eustary.
Also is their colour enhanced by being in salty water?
What can I expect the life span in captivity is?=20
As I guess they would be pretty well annual in the wild.
In our shop I have some in a very small display tank with 50/50 =
brackish and they colour pretty good in the natural sun light.
=20
Also anyone in Australia have any Melanotaenia pygmae fish or eggs =
available?
Currently I have one full grown Male, approx 55mm long in another =
mixed display.=20
I love the colour so much, Im looking for more=20
along with me, a couple of other SANFA members are.
Any help out there???????
Danny Walker.
