(Greetings all - Wim sent me the following - I was impressed so I asked him
if I could forward it to the list... regards, Andrew Boyd)

Well I can only tell you how I keep and breed my werneris

Threadfins need a lot of space.
I keep 10 pair in a tank 60x40x30 cm.
That seems a big tank for those small fishes, but they need some space to swim.
The waterconditions are about 50 ppm hardness and a ph 6.5 - 6.8
I use gravel filtration (with air) for filtration and to create some currenty.
See to it that the bottom off the tank is covert with some dark gravel (or
something like that) and give the fishes some javamoss or riccia to spawn.
However the feeding of the threadfins is the most inportant.
Threadfins need large quantities off small live food during the day and they
don't eat rapidly like other rainbows, so if you are keeping them together
with other fishes see to it that there is enough food for the werneris.
(I don't know what kind off food is available over there, but threadfins do
very well on live cyclops.
Last winter I wasn't able to collect cyclops and fed the fishes live brine
shrimp and some frozen cyclops, the threadfins lost colour and didn't
produce eggs anymore.)
I think the feeding is the main problem in keeping threadfins in good
condition.
I feed my threadfins vinegar-eels, brine shrimp, cyclops, small fruit-fly's
and occasionly some APR. and they do very well.

I hope you can do something with the information,

Regards

Wim.
