Normally I fill a tank with Brisbane tap water and let it sit with
aerators for up to 7 days before introducing fish. If I am using
undergravel filters I normally let things stand for 3 to 4 weeks before
introducing fish and plants. So far I have not had any problems with my
fish :-).
Just my 2 cents worth.
