Yeh! I don't think much of your names either Doug but as I don't
know you perhaps I should call you Mr Collom :) . I still think there
should be an official ANGFA list but names that have already been
published in such biblical works as Dr. Allen's are always going to
stick and unless they are wildly inaccurate such as Eastern Rainbow
should be on the list as published. If any fish deserved the name
"Eastern" it would have to be R. ornatus (given its sand island and
FNNSW habitats) and obviously there are some much better names for
such a charismatic fish.

Giving a name to such a widespread and variable species such as
M.s.splendida is a real problem. I don't think Capricornian or
eastern does it. Splendida is not really that hard to say. In fact
most of the rainbow species names are pretty easy to say and because
they are from a (mostly) dead language you can say them however you
like anyway.

Mind you, I'm still not sure how to say Iriatherina. I assume that
the word atherina is the important bit but that does not really roll
off the tongue. Thank (insert name of appropriate higher being) they
have nice distinctive fins.

I am going to unsubscribe for a while. I will be out at Pilliga and
on holidays most of the time until late March. I'll be interested to
hear if there has been anything useful to come out of this thread
when I return!

Cop you all Later
Much later!
Matthew
