The Apple Snail is supposed to be a major threat to rice crops, and I can't
convince the person concerned that Mystery Snails aren't plant eaters.
There is anecdotal evidence that there are Apple Snails in the hobby in
Australia - I can't remember having seen any myself, mind ;)
I can't say I'm too fussed one way or the other about a feral threat to a
destructive monoculture, but if I was a rice farmer I guess I'd see it
differently.
What I do care about is my continued right to keep Mystery Snails, I like 'em ;)

I tried to get some info on fishes of Bougainville but came up with a big
fat zero :-(
Snails are not much higher on the list - all I know is that the Mystery
Snail (Ampullaria cuprina, I think), is the 0nly one that is NOT a plant
eater
