Speaking of Galaxids my friend in Melbourne recently to a field trip to the
north of Victoria to a logging area where they discovered a strain of
Fucus. Apparently the water was extremely cold and the females were in
berrie. It was thought at the time that this was the only population in the
area until early this week when they were going to look at another group
which they were hoping to be another strain. The fish were also in colour,
not a bright yellow but an olive yellow.
Galaxids are one of the best little natives around, very intelligent and
quite amusing. Not at all fond of warmer water. I lose them every summer if
the water gets much over 29 degs.
