30% air may be about right. I did say mostly water not all water:~)
I'm just curious about the amounts, as a vial holds much less water
and air than a mop of eggs. I am actually very happy with the fry that
did hatch (Thanks again Chris). A further note on this is, in each
vial one egg had hatched in shipment and transferred fine into my
tanks. If the fry survived I doubt the water quality or gas levels
were too bent out of shape. But something must be happening to these
eggs when we ship them. Next time I'll have to try forcing them in
straight RO water if they don't hatch when eyed up.
I may carry some eggs in vials and mops roundtrip to the RSG
convention just to see the results on hatching when I get home. Of
course I'll also have to keep a control group of the same eggs at
home.
I'll assume a number of you AGNFA folk will be flying to the ANGFA
convention. Any of you got some fish that are usually giving eggs to
try the same experiment with? If we could maximize the number of
people flying with eggs packed different ways, maybe we could get some
ideas as to what is happening.
Of course we should probably brain storm up a number of controls and
tests. GH, KH & pH of the water packed and the water on return. Any
other good ideas?
