[RML] reef blocks

In my reading of certain articles and in reading email from RML I see reef
blocks mentioned in regards to supplying calcium and buffering ph. This
suppossedly is the new or preferred method over the old method of using shell
grit. Someone has said HBH blocks were what was being used by several bow
aquariast. I was wondering if the Sealab 28 blocks were the same thing or
did the same thing?
