Hi,

I'm seeking your advice as to whom might be urged to seek "Expert Objector
Status" (or prominent disarmament activist) in the upcoming CFMTR Nanoose
(Torpedo Range) Expropriation hearings?

[For those of you just receiving this message out of the blue - the Canadian
government is about to begin expropriation hearings for the British Columbia
based CFMRETR nuclear-torpedo range (80% of tests are by American nuclear
submarines)which the BC government is reluctant to surrender without
assurances
nuclear weapons-capable vessels will not utilize the base testing area in
Georgia Strait]

Here's my first kick at the can of potential experts which NGO's might
approach
to seek "objector's status." The deadline is June 2oth - Details at end of
message. Under Federal expropriation rules "reasonable expenses" can be
covered
by those seeking to make a presentation to the hearings.

If you have contact info for someone you think should be contacted I'd
appreciate if you fwded to me HBreen at Island.Net .

NANOOSE EXPROPRIATION - FILE YOUR OBJECTION NOW !

Ottawa's "Notice of Intention to Expropriate", has now been published, and
we have until June 20 to register objections. Here are the address(es) to
mail your objection to. (by 'registered mail'). Please also PUBLISH AND
FAX this as widely as possible.

Although only a single 'objection' is requred to trigger hearings
(and that has already been done), we can and should innundate them with
objections which will be hard to ignore.

We don't yet know exactly when or where the hearings will be held, or
whether Ottawa will pay legitimate expenses for those people who have to
travel to attend (for example if hearings are held ONLY in Nanaimo [or
Ottawa] or something equally silly.

But the MAIN thing is TO GET YOUR OBJECTION IN THE MAIL BEFORE
JUNE 20: or you won't be allowed to participate - only listen.

Here's the relevant part:
=====================

" ...Any person who objects to the intended expropriation of the
above-mentioned interests [expropriation of Nanoose] may at any time within
thiry days from the day upon which this Notice of Intention to Expropriate
is published in the Canada Gazette, forward by registered mail to, or leave
at:

Office of the Minister of Public Works and Government Services

800 Burrard Street, Vancouver, B.C.
V6Z 2V8

(OR)

Director General, OAS/RES

Craft objection in writing stating the name and address of such person and
indicating the nature of his/her objection, the grounds on which his/her
objection is based and the nature of his/her interest in the matter of the
intended expropriation.
