BUMP is an undergraduate and graduate program in marine biology, with foci
in the areas of sensory physiology, chemical ecology, coastal ecology,
ichthyology, and aquatic conservation biology. For undergraduates, the
highlight is a one-semester stay in Woods Hole for four very intensive
courses, often including independent research; this can be extended to one
year in some cases. There are five faculty in the program:
Dr. Jelle Atema, Director sensory physiology
Dr. Vince Dionne biology of reception at a cellular level
Dr. Ivan Valiella estuarine and coastal ecology, nutrient dynamics
Dr. Phil Lobel ichthyology, acoustics, coral reef biology
Dr. Les Kaufman evolutionary ecology of labroid fishes,
conservation biology of coral reef and great lakes
environments
