Dear ACN-L folks:

Several people inquired as to what FISHNET is? Please feel free to
repost this announcement as many of the issues we deal with would be of
interest to you or your colleagues. Thanks.

FISHNET is an electronic network linking west coast fisheries
organizations and associations (both commercial and recreational), as well as
folks working on fisheries protection issues from conservation organizations,
agencies and Tribes -- throughout the entire west coast and Canada.

In addition to special alerts, joining FISHNET gives you "FishNet News",
an electronic newsletter co-published by PCFFA and the Institute for
Fisheries Resources. This E-mail newsletter is intended to be a summary of
current and useful information related to the conservation and restoration of
the Pacific west coast salmon and other fisheries. FishNet News will bring
you the most current information you need on these issues, plus lists of
useful resources on the Internet, plus analyses of issues which affect both
inland and marine fisheries.

As fishermen we are the stewards of the fisheries -- it is up to us to
take the lead in protecting our irreplaceable biological resources. This is
one way we can work together to do it.

Membership in FISHNET and a subscription to our on-line newsletter is
free. In addition to FishNet News we also publish a regular hardcopy
newsletter designed for fish-activists, called "The Friday," which comes out
by first class mail about every two weeks. If you would like to subscribe
to The Friday as well, please feel free to do so for $35/year, sent with your
name and mailing address to PCFFA Northwest, PO Box 11170, Eugene, OR
97440-3370.

To join FISHNET you will only need E-mail capability. As soon as you
have E-mail, just contact us and ask to subscribe by E-mailing your name to:

fish1ifr at aol.com

This is our permanent E-mailing address. If you have news items or articles
for this newsletter related to west coast salmon or other fish/environmental
issues, we welcome them. However, space and time are limited so all
submissions are subject to editing. They should be e-mailed to us (at
fish1ifr at aol.com) in ASCII(Dos) format -- the most universal format for
e-mail. Please include your name and E-mail address so that readers can
contact you for more information.

FISHNET is managed by PCFFA and the Institute for Fisheries Resources.
It is a moderated information network intended to bring you current and
relevant information rather than an open-ended listserver.

PCFFA is the largest organization of commercial fishermen on the US west
coast and is a federation of 25 different fishermen's associations from San
Diego to Alaska. The Institute for Fisheries Resources is its conservation
affiliate, working primarily on the protection and restoration of west coast
salmon. For more information about these two
organizations and their programs, as well as for many links to other fishery
protection organizations and resources, refer to our Web pages:
